Beautiful, beautiful, magnificent desolation

"Beautiful, beautiful, magnificent desolation" was how Buzz Aldrin described the landscape of the moon.

This new work by Robert Steadman, for soprano saxophone and string orchestra, tries to put that quote into musical form.

Beautiful, beautiful, magnificent desolation

As Buzz Aldrin stepped down onto the surface of the moon, the second person ever to do so, he described what he saw: "Beautiful, beautiful, magnificent desolation".



This new instrumental piece is available in a number of different versions, each with piano accompaniment:
